Replacing the battery in a JBL Xtreme 2 is fully doable at home. The JBL Xtreme 2 exists in several internal variations, so some screw locations or connector layouts may differ slightly – but the overall process remains the same.

The Xtreme 2 contains strong internal magnets, so try to keep metal tools under control to avoid damaging the diaphragms. 

Before starting, switch off your speaker and unplug all cables. 

Important: Opening the Xtreme 2 may reduce its waterproof rating. Always ensure all seals and covers are properly reseated during reassembly.

Step 1 – Remove the outer housing

1. Turn the speaker upside down and locate the gap in the fabric cover on the underside.
2. Insert a plastic or metal spudger into the seam and pry upwards to release the plastic clips.
3. Remove the two 8.6 mm Phillips screws now visible.
4. Repeat the prying process along the opposite edge.
5. With the screws removed, lift the speaker chassis upward and away from the hinged fabric cover.

Step 2 – Access the battery compartment

1. With the fabric cover opened, locate the large battery compartment along the underside.
2. Remove the six 8.6 mm Phillips screws securing the plastic battery cover.
3. Insert a spudger into the small gap beside the battery and gently pry upwards until you can grip the pack with your fingers.
4. Lift the battery out enough to access the connector area.

Step 3 – Disconnect the old battery

1. The Xtreme 2 battery uses a multi-pin connector with a locking tab.
2. Insert a spudger into the cut-out beside the connector and push the latch toward the plug to unlock it.
3. With your other hand, grip the cable above the connector and pull straight up, wiggling gently to release it from the socket.
4. Remove the battery completely from the speaker.

Step 4 – Install the new CELLONIC battery

1. Compare the new battery with the old one to ensure the same plug type and wire orientation.
2. Insert the replacement battery into the compartment and reconnect the white plug securely into the socket.
3. Make sure the cable is routed flat and clear of screw posts or moving parts.

Step 5 – Reassemble the speaker

1. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the six screws.
2. Fold the speaker assembly back into the fabric housing, ensuring the hinge aligns correctly.
3. Reattach the two screws on the underside and press the fabric cover clips back into place.
4. Once fully reassembled, charge the speaker fully and try to power it on.
