How to replace your JBL Xtreme battery

Before starting, switch off your speaker and unplug all cables. The Xtreme has many screws and strong internal magnets, so work slowly and keep metal tools under control.

Important: Opening the speaker may reduce its waterproof rating. Ensure all seals are fully reseated afterward.

Step 1 – Remove the outer housing

  1. Locate the seam on the underside of the speaker.
  2. Insert a pry tool and gently lift the rear section of the cover.
  3. Remove the two screws that become visible.
  4. Pull the housing apart on both sides and lift it off.

Step 2 – Remove the side cap and passive radiator

  1. On the left-hand side (zipper side), remove the 6 screws securing the passive radiator.
  2. Five are accessible from the outside, one from the inside.
  3. Lift the radiator off and keep the narrow rubber seal safe.
  4. Disconnect the exposed battery cable from the circuit board.

Step 3 – Open the battery compartment

  1. Under the zipper flap, remove the 3 screws to release the outer battery cover.
  2. Lift off the cover.
  3. Under it, remove 8 more screws securing the inner cover.
  4. Carefully detach the small white ribbon cable that links the cover to the device.

Step 4 – Remove the old battery

  1. Lift the battery out by hand.
  2. Guide the cable gently past other wiring and through the housing opening.

Step 5 – Install the new CELLONIC battery

  1. Insert the new battery into the compartment.
  2. Reconnect the white plug to the socket.
  3. Ensure the cable is routed safely and clear of moving parts.

Step 6 – Reassemble and test

  1. Refit all covers, screws and the passive radiator.
  2. Reattach the outer housing.
  3. Fully charge the speaker and confirm normal operation.

If the speaker won’t charge, powers off quickly, or loses charge faster than usual, the battery is likely worn out and needs replacing.

How long does a JBL Xtreme battery last?

A JBL Xtreme battery typically lasts 2–4 years of regular use, which equals around 300–500 charge cycles.

Why does my JBL Xtreme battery drain quickly?
