How to replace your JBL Charge 4 battery

Replacing the battery in your JBL Charge 4 is straightforward with the right tools and a bit of care. Follow the steps below.

Important: Opening your speaker may reduce its waterproof protection. Always ensure all seals and covers are correctly reseated during reassembly.

Step 1. Remove the outer housing

  1. Locate the gap in the cover on the underside of the speaker.
  2. Insert a plastic lever or spudger into the gap and gently pry up the back part of the cover.
  3. Loosen and remove the two Phillips screws now visible.
  4. Carefully pull the cover apart on both sides and lift it away from the device.

Step 2. Open the battery compartment

  1. Remove the two #0 Phillips screws from the front of the connector cover.
  2. Gently slide the cover back to release it from its clips, then remove it completely.
  3. Remove the two 6 mm Phillips screws on the outer sides and the four 8 mm Phillips screws in the centre of the panel.
  4. Peel back the small piece of adhesive tape to expose the white ribbon cable’s ZIF connector.

Important: Do not remove the white ribbon cable from the circuit board – it’s extremely difficult to reconnect. Instead, carefully remove the small circuit board, which is lightly glued in place, or simply work around it. In many cases, you can access the battery without removing the board at all.

Step 3. Remove the old battery

  1. Carefully pull on the battery to release it from its adhesive backing or bracket.
  2. Pull it out just far enough to access the battery connector.
  3. Press down on the white locking tab and gently disconnect the battery plug from the socket.
  4. Remove the old battery from the compartment.

Step 4. Install the new battery

  1. Connect the white plug of your new CELLONIC battery to the same socket.
  2. Ensure the cable is neatly routed and not pinched.
  3. Push the new battery securely into place.

Step 5. Reassemble and test

  1. Lower the circuit board back into place if you lifted it.
  2. Reattach the battery cover.
  3. Refit all screws, covers and rubber seals following the steps in reverse order.
  4. Fully charge your JBL Charge 4 before testing to confirm normal power and charging behaviour.
