There are two versions of JBL Charge 3 (2016) GSP1029102A battery - so always double-check compatibility

The JBL Charge 3 (2016) was produced with two different battery connector layouts - yet both were assigned the same part number, GSP1029102A.

These batteries provide the same performance and capacity, but the wire polarity and plug orientation are reversed. In one version, the red wires (positive) are on one side and the black wires (negative) are on the other. In the other version, it’s the other way around.

Before ordering a replacement JBL Charge 3 battery, compare the connector shape and wire colours (red and black) of your original battery with our product photos to ensure the correct match. Otherwise, the battery will not work and could damage your speakers.

Replacing the battery in your JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth speaker is straightforward if you take care and have the right tools. The steps below apply to all Charge 3 models - minor design variations don’t affect the overall process.

Important: Opening the speaker may reduce its waterproof protection, so make sure all seals and covers are correctly re-seated when reassembling.

Step 1 - Remove the outer cover:

Turn the speaker upside down and insert a lever tool beside the rubber base. Carefully lift the cover upwards, remove the two visible screws, then pull off the cover on both sides. Keep the screws somewhere safe.

Step 2 - Remove the side cap:

On the side with the Bluetooth button, remove any locking screws. Lift the tabs and twist gently to release the cap - this may take a little patience. Once removed, you’ll see the battery connector.

Step 3 - Disconnect the old battery:

Unplug the 5-core connector from the circuit board. Compare the wire colours and plug layout with your replacement battery to confirm compatibility.

Step 4 - Open the battery compartment:

Remove the screws holding the battery cover, lift the protective plate and loosen the inner screws beneath it. Carefully pull the old battery and cable out of the compartment.

Step 5 - Install the new battery:

Connect the white plug to the socket, making sure the cable sits neatly and doesn’t touch the passive diaphragm. Insert the new battery securely into the compartment.

Step 6 - Reassemble and test:

Reattach all covers and screws, aligning guide pins and seals correctly. Once fully reassembled, fully charge the speaker, then test that it powers on and holds charge normally.

Tip: Always use a compatible replacement battery designed for the JBL Charge 3. Dispose of your old battery responsibly at a local recycling centre.
