Step 1 – Remove the fabric cover

1. The mesh outer cover is secured with plastic clips. Start at the lower edge beside the buttons and insert a plastic spudger into the seam.
2. Pry gently upwards to release the clips one by one, then slide the tool along the edge. Repeat on the opposite side until all clips are free and you can lift the cover off completely.

Step 2 – Remove the side bracket and end cap

1. Depending on your Flip 5 version, the side brackets may have two screws or only clips. Remove the screws if present, or gently pry off the covers with your spudger.
2. Detach the side cap with the JBL logo by releasing the four locking lugs around its edge. This exposes the passive radiator and battery compartment.

Step 3 – Access the battery

1. Remove the screws securing the battery cover and lift it off to reveal the battery and its two-pin connector plug.
2. In some versions, the plug sits closer to the outer edge of the board; in others, it’s mounted slightly inward.

Step 4 – Disconnect and remove the old battery

1. Unplug the white connector by pressing its small side latch and lifting gently – never pull on the wires.
