The hood is not super strong (think Sony video hoods in the late 80s and 90s) but its reasonably strong whilst staying light. The 58mm version fit all my 58mm filters but I had trouble getting the 52mm version on to my Voigtlander 40mm SLII lens. The hood comes with a so-called locking ring. I understand how that is supposed to work but I couldn't make it work without a lot of work, not what you want to do in the field. I actually ended up using a step up filter or an empty UV filter ring to attach the hood to the lens in a convenient way. I recommend an empty filter and some super glue to get it at the right angle that you can just screw it on to your lens without having to make sure its level. I would buy the hood again.
